On 5 June 2026, TB Network Nigeria, under the Fast Track the Cure (FTTC) Grant supported by TB Alliance, conducted a live radio advocacy engagement at Fasaha Radio, Kano State to increase awareness on Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) and promote uptake of the BPaL treatment regimen. The activity brought together a multidisciplinary panel comprising the State DR-TB Focal Person, civil society leadership, CBO representation, and a TB survivor. The session provided technical education, addressed misconceptions, and strengthened community understanding of TB prevention and treatment. Key discussions focused on DR-TB definition and burden, advantages of the BPaL regimen as a shorter, all-oral treatment option, management of side effects, patient support systems, and the critical role of communities in reducing stigma and improving treatment adherence. A survivor testimony highlighted lived experience and recovery, reinforcing that DR-TB is curable with early diagnosis and proper treatment adherence. The interactive call-in segment enabled community members to engage directly with experts, further correcting myths and increasing demand for TB services. Key Outcomes: i. Improved public awareness of DR-TB and BPaL regimen ii. Strengthened community trust in TB services iii. Increased knowledge of free TB diagnosis and treatment services iv. Enhanced stigma reduction through survivor engagement v. Strengthened multi-sectoral collaboration in TB response The engagement aligns with the WHO End TB Strategy and TB Alliance objectives of accelerating access to shorter, more effective DR-TB treatment regimens while strengthening community systems for TB control.
